I wrote this letter to the Woodstock Planning Board on March 1, 2010. Noise is noise.
Re: Bandstand Noise
Dear Planning Board Members:
I have learned some alarming information about RUPCO’s proposed Woodstock Commons development and want to share it with all of you since of course you are in the process of deliberating the question of whether to approve the project.
The issue I am writing about in this letter is the Community Building (“D” Building..) Near this building, it is written in Chapter 5, Section 5.14, page 510, that “a 212 s.f. gazebo/bandstand will also be constructed here, serving a range of functions from being a quiet sitting area to a focal point for musical performances.”
Has the music from these “musical performances” been included in the DEIS noise study? Is there any allowable decibel level for this performed music? Will the music be amplified by electrically powered amplification equipment?
Do you not think that the character of the community would be unnecessarily changed if musical performances were to take place where now there is only the sound of the babbling brook and the sweetly chirping birds?
It is of the utmost importance to treat this planned source of noise like any other source of noise.
Thank you for your most serious consideration in this matter.
Yours truly,
Robin Segal
